Large dinner plate with gadroon rim enclosing 4 repeated woman and child vignettes in a floral border, the centre
panel showing an italianate rural landscape with a man and woman in the foreground gathering vegetables with hops growing
through the trees behind them. "Humulus" being the latin name for hops which were at the time much favoured not merely for
beer but for a distilled fragrance and for Hop pillows apparently favoured by George III to encourage sleep. This plate is in good
condition but a few very small rim chips and the clear cartouche of William and Samuel Edge of Market Street, Lane Delph.
